Not Many Politcal Commercials – Thankfully

by on Oct.09, 2012, under Life, TV

Our state is not a swing state for the fucking elections so we don’t have to endure the barrage of commercials that the other states are having to watch on TV every night. We don’t even have many heated local contests this year. So, I’ll spare you the political comments and just mention that the commercials we have to watch are boring and repetitive, but they are better than the negative, shitty campaign ads any day.

Frosty Pumpkins This Week

by on Oct.05, 2012, under Fun Stuff, Good Eats, Life

No one in my neighborhood has put out a pumpkin on their porch yet, but I’m ready for one! The weather has cooled off a lot and I think a pumpkin this week would have no problem lasting until Halloween. The cool air is like a refrigerator and will keep it from spoiling.

I found a few pumpkins at Kroger yesterday, but they want $9 a piece and there were not very many to choose from. I don’t know why, but I have this deep feeling that a pumpkin should only cost about $4 or $5 – not $9 . So I guess I will look for a roadside stand or a charity pumpkin patch if I’m going to be spending $10 for this year’s pumpkin. I think the Boy Scouts or a church youth group could use that money a little better than the Kroger company.

New Shampoo

by on Oct.01, 2012, under Life

For years I have been using two shampoos. I switch them off, as I think that any hair product builds up in your hair and eventually become ineffective in maintaining your hairs health and shine. So I use a L’Oreal shampoo and conditioner for about a month and then I switch to an Herbal Essence shampoo and conditioner.

This probably sounds ridiculous, but even though I have used that Herbal Essence shampoo for over 2 years, I cannot tell you the name of that particular fragrance. Its just something that I don’t pay attention to, even though I use it day after day. I just grab the bottle and squirt out a little into my hand. I don’t really care what the fragrance is called. But I do know that it is in a light blue bottle and it is for color treated or damaged hair.

So I went to the store to buy a new bottle of the Herbal Essence and they have completely changed the product line. The blue bottle that I’ve known and used for years is no longer available. So now what the fuck do I do? Should I completely rethink the second shampoo brand? Or should I try to find the closest new fragrance and formula by the same company?

I don’t know – I left without buying anything. I have enough of the L’Oreal to last for another month, so I don’t have to make a decision right now anyway.

Local Comedy Clubs

by on Sep.29, 2012, under Fun Stuff, Life, Movies, TV

One of the attractions of living in a city is that most cities have some sort of comedy club for local entertainment. Of course, the major metropolitan areas may have several comedy clubs, and on occasion the more proper theaters may book a top shelf comedian for a two or three night special performance when they are between the longer running plays and concert series.

The comedy club in Nashville is called Zanies and they do a pretty good job of pulling in nationally known comedians. I have seen several top acts from TV shows and movies there over the years, but haven’t been going lately.Since I a single, I am careful about where I go at night and am very cautious about where can I park safely and have a good chance of getting to my car and heading home without any incidents. The Zanies is in a shady part of town and their parking lot is way too small for the number of cars. If you are not there at least an hour before the show you have little chance of parking in their lot, and if there are two shows and you are trying to attend the second show, finding parking in the lot is practically impossible.

The shows are good, the drinks are good, the food is so-so and the parking is crap. I would love to see the relocate and be in a nicer and safer neighborhood. And a place with plenty of off street free parking would bring me to the club many times in a year.

Donate Your Newspapers to a Vet or Shelter

by on Sep.24, 2012, under Life

So many people just thoughtlessly toss a newspaper into the trash when they have finished reading it. That drives me crazy. First of all, the very least you can do with a used newspaper is set it aside for recycling. It the local trash collection does not include an option for recycling newspapers, you can collect them at home until you have enough to make a trip to the recycling drop off or landfill worth the trip.

But even better than sending them to the landfill is to donate them to the local vet or animal shelter. Vets and shelters use the newspapers to line the cages of the animals. It is an easy way to help make an animal a little more comfortable during their stay to have newspaper in the cage rather than the bare metal wires or cold concrete floor.
