Changes in the Talk Shows

by on Oct.24, 2013, under Fun Stuff, TV

As this year comes to an end, I’m looking forward to some of the changes that will be happening for the late night TV talk shows. It looks like Jay Leno will really be retiring this time – the last time turned into a fiasco and I’m still pretty angry that he shit on Conan O’Brien like that. I don’t even like Conan, but it’s not cool to give your time slot to someone else and then come slithering back a few months later like a snake and take it away from the guy. Not cool at all.

Since that happened I have not watched a single ay Leno show. Fuck him.

The good news is that Jimmy Fallon will be taking over the Tonight Show when Leno finally leaves – for good this time. i really like Jimmy Fallon and his knack for comedy. I always have – from back in his Saturday Night Live days to the Jimmy Fallon Show that comes on late at night. He is a great host – he has a wonderful rapport with all his guests and he incorporates a lot of funny bits into the show. I can’t wait for him to get recognized for his talent and get the Tonight Show going.

And to Jay – don’t let the door hit you on the ass when you leave this time. Pffft.

Classic Rock Favorites

by on Dec.17, 2012, under Life, Technology, TV, Videos

There are channels on cable for music instead of all the movies and old show reruns that you get every day. You know the saying, 700 channels and nothing on. That’s daytime TV – even with cable and “on demand” movies and TV shows. Sometimes I get sick of the shows and just want some pleasant background noise to keep me company during the day. So the Music Channels are in the 400s and I can never remember the right channel number for the classic Rock station. I just use the remote to enter 410 or 411 and then hit the guide to go up and down until I find the fucking classic rock station. Some of the other stations sounds interesting but when I give them a try they always disappoint. And forget MTV or VH! – all they do is show movies and reality shows – they don’t even play music videos anymore.

So now I’ve got it on channel 412 and they just played Black Sabbath, which it not what I would call classic rock, but I listened to that and now the song is Truckin by the Grateful Dead. I’m not sure who does the programming for these cable music channels, but why the fuck would anyone play the Grateful Dead right after Black Sabbath? This programming really sucks ass, but what can you do?

Not Many Politcal Commercials – Thankfully

by on Oct.09, 2012, under Life, TV

Our state is not a swing state for the fucking elections so we don’t have to endure the barrage of commercials that the other states are having to watch on TV every night. We don’t even have many heated local contests this year. So, I’ll spare you the political comments and just mention that the commercials we have to watch are boring and repetitive, but they are better than the negative, shitty campaign ads any day.

Local Comedy Clubs

by on Sep.29, 2012, under Fun Stuff, Life, Movies, TV

One of the attractions of living in a city is that most cities have some sort of comedy club for local entertainment. Of course, the major metropolitan areas may have several comedy clubs, and on occasion the more proper theaters may book a top shelf comedian for a two or three night special performance when they are between the longer running plays and concert series.

The comedy club in Nashville is called Zanies and they do a pretty good job of pulling in nationally known comedians. I have seen several top acts from TV shows and movies there over the years, but haven’t been going lately.Since I a single, I am careful about where I go at night and am very cautious about where can I park safely and have a good chance of getting to my car and heading home without any incidents. The Zanies is in a shady part of town and their parking lot is way too small for the number of cars. If you are not there at least an hour before the show you have little chance of parking in their lot, and if there are two shows and you are trying to attend the second show, finding parking in the lot is practically impossible.

The shows are good, the drinks are good, the food is so-so and the parking is crap. I would love to see the relocate and be in a nicer and safer neighborhood. And a place with plenty of off street free parking would bring me to the club many times in a year.

Stupid fucking shows

by on Mar.05, 2012, under Life, Movies, TV

There are so many stupid fucking shows on TV. Jersey Shore is one of the worst of them. Let’s just make a show about people acting stupid and showing little to no morality what so ever. Really? All I can do is shake my head over this one. Then there is the teen moms show about teenage girls getting knocked up and acting the fool as well. Hello ! Am I the only person who sees this as a serious decline in the morality of our culture? I guess I am. Why in the hell would you let your teenage daughter be followed around by cameras to make you and your family look like morons?

It is hard to find good programming lately with all the crappy shows that they are showing on prime time TV. If you only have basic cable, you are screwed totally. I guess I will be upgrading my cable soon, because I really need something good to watch when I am at home. As it is, I mostly watch movies, and those are usually on demand stuff. Maybe I will just go out tonight, since there is nothing to watch on TV. I am not really sure. I feel like being a couch potato though and it irritates me to be bored.
