Shooting Some 8 Ball

by on Nov.01, 2013, under Friends, Fun Stuff

My boyfriend likes to shoot pool, so I usually tag along with him if I don’t have anything else going on. We were shooting some 8 ball last night at the Antioch pool hall and had a lot of fun. The other guys in there were happy and laughing and fooling around – none of the serious, money involved kind of competitions. That was a nice change. Sometimes when we go we have to be real quiet and be sure to not disturb the other players. But for some reason everyone was in a good mood and just out having fun.

There are not as many pool halls around here as I am used to. When I was growing up in the DC suburbs, there were pool halls all over the place. Some of them were for casual play and some were for serious competitions. I usually just went to the casual places with my brothers on with my date. I’m a pretty good shot and can hold my own in a regular game. I don’t do any trick shots or anything fancy. I just take my time, aim and hope for the best. I’m not intimidated about breaking them, either. I can hit the lead ball nice and clean and leave myself some easy pocket shots most of the time.

Changes in the Talk Shows

by on Oct.24, 2013, under Fun Stuff, TV

As this year comes to an end, I’m looking forward to some of the changes that will be happening for the late night TV talk shows. It looks like Jay Leno will really be retiring this time – the last time turned into a fiasco and I’m still pretty angry that he shit on Conan O’Brien like that. I don’t even like Conan, but it’s not cool to give your time slot to someone else and then come slithering back a few months later like a snake and take it away from the guy. Not cool at all.

Since that happened I have not watched a single ay Leno show. Fuck him.

The good news is that Jimmy Fallon will be taking over the Tonight Show when Leno finally leaves – for good this time. i really like Jimmy Fallon and his knack for comedy. I always have – from back in his Saturday Night Live days to the Jimmy Fallon Show that comes on late at night. He is a great host – he has a wonderful rapport with all his guests and he incorporates a lot of funny bits into the show. I can’t wait for him to get recognized for his talent and get the Tonight Show going.

And to Jay – don’t let the door hit you on the ass when you leave this time. Pffft.

Frosty Pumpkins This Week

by on Oct.05, 2012, under Fun Stuff, Good Eats, Life

No one in my neighborhood has put out a pumpkin on their porch yet, but I’m ready for one! The weather has cooled off a lot and I think a pumpkin this week would have no problem lasting until Halloween. The cool air is like a refrigerator and will keep it from spoiling.

I found a few pumpkins at Kroger yesterday, but they want $9 a piece and there were not very many to choose from. I don’t know why, but I have this deep feeling that a pumpkin should only cost about $4 or $5 – not $9 . So I guess I will look for a roadside stand or a charity pumpkin patch if I’m going to be spending $10 for this year’s pumpkin. I think the Boy Scouts or a church youth group could use that money a little better than the Kroger company.

Local Comedy Clubs

by on Sep.29, 2012, under Fun Stuff, Life, Movies, TV

One of the attractions of living in a city is that most cities have some sort of comedy club for local entertainment. Of course, the major metropolitan areas may have several comedy clubs, and on occasion the more proper theaters may book a top shelf comedian for a two or three night special performance when they are between the longer running plays and concert series.

The comedy club in Nashville is called Zanies and they do a pretty good job of pulling in nationally known comedians. I have seen several top acts from TV shows and movies there over the years, but haven’t been going lately.Since I a single, I am careful about where I go at night and am very cautious about where can I park safely and have a good chance of getting to my car and heading home without any incidents. The Zanies is in a shady part of town and their parking lot is way too small for the number of cars. If you are not there at least an hour before the show you have little chance of parking in their lot, and if there are two shows and you are trying to attend the second show, finding parking in the lot is practically impossible.

The shows are good, the drinks are good, the food is so-so and the parking is crap. I would love to see the relocate and be in a nicer and safer neighborhood. And a place with plenty of off street free parking would bring me to the club many times in a year.

Just a Shout Out to My Girl Chloe

by on Sep.14, 2012, under Adults, Fun Stuff, Life

Met Chloe about 4 years ago when she moved into the neighborhood with her boyfriend. They were renting a house down the street and one day I had a little yard sale going on and they stopped to see my junk. We got to talking and found out that we are both from Michigan originally. In fact, there are a lot of people who have moved to Tennessee and Alabama from Michigan because of the automotive industries.

So, Chloe and I ended up getting together once in a while, but you know its hard to be girlfriends when one of you have a steady guy and the other is busy dating. So, although I was glad she had a boyfriend and they were happy together, it would be more fun to be friends if she could get out of the house at night once in a while and come to the movies or even a fast casual dinner. Sometimes we need girl time out and dragging the boyfriend along every place you go can drag you down – it changes the dynamics of the group, no matter how nice he is.

Being a couple especially sucks when you are missing out on a lot of fun and then after all that sacrifice, the asshat dumps you and leaves you on your own after all.

So, Chloe, you  know I’m bummed that your relationship is rocky right now. I’m not going to trash your boyfriend because there is always a chance you will get back together and then I won’t want to be alienated from either of you. Just know that if you want to go hang out, that’s cool. I’m always up for a fun girl’s night out.
